Tears into Determination

DETERMINATION Throughout the course of my journey in recovery there have been ups and downs, times of joy, and times of tribulation. One of the greatest joys of my recovery is the fact that my two oldest sons have joined me on this journey. I believe that because of their bearing witness to my own struggles and ultimate triumph they were able to raise their hands for help decades in their lifespan, before I had the voice to do so in my own. As I watched them struggle, surrender and rise again, the mom in me, and the treatment professional […]

Love is an Action Word

Well today is the big day! Well today is the big day! After much dreaming and planning- Spearhead Lodge officially opens today!   I feel like I am watching my child walk up the steps to the first day of kindergarten! Nervous, excited, full of pangs of joy and sadness all mixed into a great big smile and a full and grateful heart. I find my mind drifting back to the nights when my two oldest sons raised their hands and asked for help with their addiction. The phone rings and the familiar voice on the line says “Mama I can’t […]

BRC Recovery Appears in Recovery Campus Magazine

Over the years at BRC Recovery My organic “introduction” to the field of treatment began in 2002, and I began working in this industry full time in 2009. In short, our millennials are suffering and dying, and it is our responsibility to take note and for our milieu to evolve. […]

Birthdays and Big Deals

Well it’s right around the corner… 45. The middle of the forties, the middle of life, the end of something, just not sure what. For whatever reason, 45 has always been the jumping off point in my mind, where it was really time to begin looking at things through the lens of maturity. Is it really all downhill from here? The older I get the more birthdays bring about thoughts of mortality. If I were to pinpoint it, I believe this began to happen when my mom passed away. In May 2010, I was two years sober, still rebuilding my […]
