Spiritual Practices & Development Series
Somewhere along the journey to sobriety we begin to see the truth outlined in the Big Book, “our troubles are of our own making”. This spiritual truth exists to remind us that at any point we can make a decision. We can decide to stop swimming upstream in an attempt to meet our own needs. We can decide to lay aside the role of judge, jury and executioner regarding circumstances that do not play out to our liking. We can decide that God is either everything or He is nothing, what was our choice to be? As we move through this newfound life in recovery all will not be smooth sailing. Life will show up just as it should and give us an opportunity to practice spiritual principles and grow or we can default back to a setting of self-will. As we come to understand the importance of acceptance in our daily living, we will see that there is a freedom provided in allowing the world around us to unfold in its own time, modality and space. When we find ourselves in conflict there is never a shortage in a spiritual experience being offered. Refocus your effort on pausing, asking and seeking the will of your Higher Power then wait in prayerful gratitude as His will comes to be.

Considerations to Practice This Week
- Do I consistently utilize the Serenity Prayer when I am having difficulty finding happiness in a situation?
- Am I acknowledging the fact that I can be happy, joyous and free regardless if a circumstance is not to my liking by simply accepting it for what it currently is?
- In understanding that the “pain is in the resistance”, will I commit my difficulties to prayer and meditation daily knowing that reliance on my Higher Power will grow from each and every obstacle I overcome?
