TAKING ACTION IN ADDICTION RECOVERY
Weekly Focal Point: Action
“When, therefore, we were approached by those in whom the problem had been solved, there was nothing left for us but to pick up the simple kit of spiritual tools laid at our feet. We have found much of heaven and we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.”
~ Big Book, pg. 25~
Throughout our time doing the work outlined in the Big Book, we are called to action. Words such as “launched”, “immediately”, and “vigorously” are written repeatedly, urging us not to hesitate or stall during this program. We have put off much of life for too long. We believed if we just waited life would begin to conform to our beliefs and ideas, but that is not so. Playing the role we are assigned and no longer trying to run the show is a decision we make early on for a reason.
The grouch and the brainstorm are the dubious luxury of normal men. Resentment being the number one offender is something that needs to be squashed as soon as it is brought into our awareness. We have the tools necessary to deal with these things and so we must go to them. The relief that can be felt through helping another addict and seeing them recover is one that we must not miss. We trust that it has worked for thousands of others, and have faith that it can work for us.
Questions for Our Consideration
- What am I holding onto that is not allowing me to move forward with my life?
- Am I moving forward making haste with steps 4-12, or am I sitting on things?
- Am I using my tools on a daily basis for my life?
