The continuum of care in relation to addiction treatment is a model we use here at our rehab center in Texas to ensure our patients achieve long-lasting sobriety. The model begins with the highest level of care initially and then cascades down as our patients need less care. The reason being is that they will have the life skills and knowledge they need to continue the path to lifelong sobriety without our help.
With this in mind, that doesn’t mean that the continuum of care stops once an individual achieves initial sobriety. In fact, individuals should keep their sobriety in check by choosing to participate in less intensive programs, like outpatient care. There are different levels of care within the continuum of care, which can include:
- Inpatient treatment
- Inpatient residential treatment
- Partial hospitalization programs
- Intensive outpatient programs
- General outpatient programs
The list above descends based on the intensity of care. While some people may need inpatient treatment, others may need to start at a lower-intensity level of care, like partial hospitalization programs. Each program within the continuum of care has different benefits which may serve one person’s needs more than another.
Inpatient Care at Texas Rehabilitation Centers
Inpatient programs arguably offer the most effective form of treatment. This is because individuals who decide on inpatient care will live at their addiction treatment facility of choice. For this reason, they’re able to spend all of their time focusing on recovery. There are two forms of inpatient care: standard inpatient programs and inpatient residential programs.
Inpatient Treatment Programs
General inpatient programs are one of the highest levels of care for those suffering from an addiction. The structure is rigid, and patients will find the setting similar to one of a hospital. It’s best suited for those suffering from a severe substance use disorder.
Inpatient Residential Treatment Programs
Alternatively, inpatient residential treatment programs (often just called residential treatment) don’t have a defined ending, although they typically last between 30-90 days. Unlike standard inpatient treatment programs, the schedule allows for more holistic activities and leisure time.
Outpatient Care at Texas Rehabilitation Centers
Outpatient programs allow individuals to receive treatment without needing to live at the addiction treatment facility. There are different levels of outpatient care to help patients get the help they need as they need it. Each step down in outpatient care can serve as a gradual transition from treatment to aftercare.
Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs)
Programs like PHP provide outpatient treatment five days each week for four to six hours each day and are designed as an alternative choice from inpatient care. This allows participants to live and sleep at home while getting treated. Between this level of intensity and flexibility, it’s easy to see why PHPs would be appropriate if you’re not looking for residential treatment but want structure with consistency.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)
Intensive outpatient programs act as a way to still receive a significant amount of treatment without as much time commitment. IOPs generally are a few hours a week, around two to three days every week. Individuals may choose to step down from a PHP to an IOP to make sure they get the care they need without as much supervision.
Outpatient Program (OP)
Standard OPs offer the least amount of treatment. They only operate a few hours a week at most. Individuals interested in this sort of program should only participate in one after they have received a more intense form of treatment. Failing to do so could draw out the length of treatment as a whole.
What Does the Continuum of Care Look Like at Our Rehab Center in Texas?
We know that the longer a person is in a structured recovery program, the stronger chance they have of experiencing lasting sobriety. Our three-phase programs occur over 15 months:
- 90-day Primary Treatment Program
- 90-day Transitional Living Program
- 12-month Aftercare Monitoring Program
Who We Treat
Addiction takes many forms and can affect individuals from every walk of life. It is vital to receive treatment that is customized to each client’s unique needs. BRC Recovery provides clinically sophisticated care for:
- Men and women (gender-specific treatment)
- Individuals with co-occurring disorders
- First responders
- Chronic relapsers
- Members of law enforcement
- People with a history of trauma
- People with multiple addictions
Not all substance abuse treatment centers in Texas have the ability to take in a wide variety of patients. At BRC Recovery, we strive to make all of our programs inclusive and specific to each group’s needs.
Primary Treatment Program at Texas Rehabilitation Centers
Recovery requires a total transformation, which requires a holistic approach that includes clinical services, health and self-care, life skills training and fitness. BRC Recovery clients reside in gender-specific communities; engage in 12-Step meetings; participate in evidenced-based clinical therapies, including individual and group counseling; improve the mind, body, spirit connection through meditation, yoga, nutrition and cooking classes; acquire the life skills necessary for a successful, fulfilling life after treatment; and exercise daily.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment at our Rehab Center in Texas
Those suffering from a substance use disorder often struggle with a mental illness. It’s not uncommon to drown painful or incomprehensible feelings in substances to take the edge off. A mental illness may predate an addiction and vice versa. The only true way to overcome both is by treating them as a joint issue.
A dual diagnosis is when an individual suffers from two or more health disorders at the same time, such as substance use disorder and mental illness. Medical staff at addiction treatment facilities help patients root out the underlying cause of addiction to help them cope with their emotions and thoughts in a productive way.
Talk Therapy at Substance Abuse Treatment Centers in Texas
Talk therapy is crucial to a successful recovery. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) are two forms of popular talk therapy. CBT focuses on combatting false beliefs about oneself and the world around him or her. DBT is a form of talk therapy that allows individuals to accept their thoughts and impulses through radical self-love and acceptance.
Holistic Therapy (Alternative Therapy)
A comprehensive addiction treatment program wouldn’t be complete without holistic therapy. Individuals who participate in holistic programs will focus on their minds, bodies, and spirits. Forms of alternative therapy include guided meditation, yoga for addiction recovery, and animal-assisted therapy.
Transitional Living Program
The transition from primary treatment back into “the real world” can be a bit of a shock. BRC Recovery’s Transitional Living Program is a smart next step for our clients because it offers an environment where clients can safely transition into a life of sobriety.
This gender-specific program is designed to build accountability and autonomy in a community-driven atmosphere. Clients participate in group prayer, meditation and house meetings.
Men and women live in company-owned and operated, gender-specific, high accountability homes and graduate-style apartments in communities throughout Austin, Texas. Our transitional residences are monitored 24/7 by a designated community manager.
We offer three levels of Transitional Living:
- High Accountability Sober Living: An environment with high levels of structure and oversight.
- Traditional Sober Living: Residents experience more independence and earn privileges through action.
Graduate-Style Apartments: Our most independent transitional residence is monitored by a community manager.
Aftercare Monitoring Program
Treatment is a lot of work, but the real work begins when you leave primary treatment. Of course, we know the significance of continued support in recovery, which is why we created our 12-month Aftercare Monitoring Program: Segue Recovery Support. Just like our Primary Treatment and Transitional Living Programs, Segue is a holistic approach to aftercare that is divided into four distinct phases designed to help individuals in early recovery navigate through their first year of sobriety.
Each client is assigned a Peer Recovery Support Specialist who serves as a recovery coach and case manager for both client and family, helping to ease the transition from treatment to a sober lifestyle. Our Peer Recovery Support Specialists are highly trained and experienced, able to identify dangerous relapse behaviors long before relapse occurs; create documentation of abstinence; and assist in connecting clients with local resources, such as 12-Step meetings, licensed therapists and other vital recovery support services.
About Our Programs
BRC Recovery offers uniquely structured services that enrich the experiences of our clients and ensure adequate personal attention that addresses each client’s needs. Highlights of our primary programs include:
- Gender-specific construct. We believe gender-specific programming is essential to getting sober, especially in the early recovery process. Our men’s and women’s treatment programs are entirely separate. Each has its own accommodations for eating, sleeping and relaxing, as well as male and female recovery managers and support staff who work in their respective programs.
- High staff-to-client ratio. We limit the number of clients in our programs so that each person has a high-quality, profoundly beneficial experience. Ample staff enables us to create a highly supportive and healthy atmosphere that fosters accountability, which has proven to be extremely effective. Plus, many members of our staff are in 12 Step recovery…we “walk the walk” not just “talk the talk”, which enhances our relationships and understanding of one another.
- Fun, revitalizing group outings. Clients appreciate the location of BRC Recovery in the beautiful Texas countryside just 10 miles east of Austin. We take advantage of both our peaceful, bucolic setting and proximity to Austin by planning a variety of outings for our clients, from hiking to cultural events in the city.
- Affiliations with medical professionals. We have established relationships with local health care practitioners, dentists and psychiatrists, all of whom are available to our clients should their services be required.
A curriculum that cultivates a meaningful life. Each client’s stay is filled with enlightening discussions and practical learning that truly changes lives. Engaging dialogue is our preferred method of instruction. We use a time-tested, personalized approach to teach our clients the life skills necessary to function successfully in today’s world.
